Elek Benedek (30 September 1859 – 17 August 1929) was a Hungarian journalist, writer, Member of Parliament, the creator of Hungarian child literature, the biggest taleteller, everybody’s Elekapó (father). He wrote is own biography in his novel entitled My Sweet Fatherland. Beside the biographical writings, his home furnished as a museum conserves the memory of Elek Benedek. He wrote the significant part of his writings, and between the two World Wars edited Transylvania’s only Hungarian children magazine, the Cimbora (Friend) in the Mari-lak built in old classicist style. The building was inaugurated for his 110th birthday and the 40th year since his dead. In the beginnings the memorial house was supervised by the writer’s daughter, Flóra Benedek, nowadays its responsible is István Szabó and his wife, Réka Szabó, the writer’s great grandchild.
